SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV)- According to the Georgia Department of Human Services, there are more than 11,000 children in foster care in the state, and the most recent federal data reveals that there are more than 400,000 in the country.
As we continue to shine a light on National Foster Care Month, we are learning more about a program that is bringing families together by celebrating the foster care community while educating and inspiring others to get involved.
Jolie Chabala, the program coordinator for Bananas Foster, joins News 3 Kim Gusby on today’s community corner to talk about the initiative and its impact on communities across the country.
The Savannah Bananas are known all over the world for their baseball antics, but last year, a new aspect was added to the franchise, known as Bananas Foster- dedicated to bringing families together off the baseball field.
When the organization launched in June of 2023, they quickly realized when the Bananas go on the road, so should Bananas Foster because there are families with amazing stories in every state.
